DESCRIPTION:On November 7th 2023\, Ohio citizens voted to pass Issue 2\, a ballot initiative that would legalize cannabis statewide. However\, many Republican lawmakers have already begun to attack Issue 2 and are already trying to pass new restrictions before Issue 2 goes into effect. With everything moving so fast\, people are left to wonder: What happens next? What is or is not legal? Where will the tax revenue go? What does this mean for the broader conversation around criminal justice reform? Join us on December 16th to hear from those working on the issue. Berman is Newton D. Baker-Baker & Hostetler Chair in Law and Executive Director of the Drug Enforcement and Policy Center\, housed in the Moritz College of Law. Berman’s principal teaching and research focus is in the area of criminal law and criminal sentencing\, though he also has teaching and practice experience in the fields of legislation and intellectual property. Founder of Cannabis Safety First\, he offers services from dispensary training to legislative advocacy. Tim’s passion extends to drug policy reform\, criminal justice\, and supporting veterans. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMary Jane Borden\n\n\n\nMary Jane Borden is a best-selling author\, skilled graphic artist\, insightful analyst\, and award-winning cannabis activist from Westerville\, Ohio. For nine years after earning her MBA in finance\, she analyzed the global cancer chemotherapy market for a major pharmaceutical company. Then\, during her 40-year career in drug policy\, she co-founded seven cannabis-oriented groups\, co-authored four proposed constitutional amendments\, lobbied for six medical marijuana bills\, penned over 100 Columbus Free Press articles\, and has given hundreds of media interviews. Spencer also serves as the 3rd Vice President of the Young Democrats of America\, President of Workers United Local 2843\, and a Member of the Board of Directors for the Legacy Fund of The Columbus Foundation. As an experienced political organizer\, Spencer founded Breakthrough Advising LLC in 2019 and managed numerous campaigns throughout Central Ohio on the local\, state\, and federal level. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJon Entine\n\n\n\nJon Entine is the founder and executive director of the Genetic Literacy Project (GLP)\, an educational outreach nonprofit that promotes science literacy by challenging misinformation on a range of issues — agricultural sustainability\, food security and climate change\, synthetic biology\, biomedicine\, public health\, vaccine resistance and artificial intelligence.
